How to look forward to exercise
Is it even possible for a non-exerciser to look forward to his/her daily workout? Or at the very least, not dread it so much? Yes, it is. Here are five things that may help: 1. Have reasonable goals. You might have 50 or 100 pounds to lose, which is unquestionably a challenge. It may be unreasonable to expect that you can lose that much within your hoped-for time frame. It’s a good idea to break it down into smaller increments, such as 10 pounds. After you’ve achieved that, set another 10-pound goal. 2. Don’t think it has to be “all or nothing.” That was my problem. If I didn’t have a full hour to exercise, or just couldn’t, I thought I had failed. Those times I could do the whole hour, I felt great. But when I couldn’t (and that was most of the time), I spent the whole workout session putting myself down about not doing enough. I didn’t find any pleasure in what I was doing. And I dreaded doing it again. 3. Be positive. Be content with whatever you can do. You can always improve by increasing the length and intensity of your workout, but that doesn’t mean that a 10-minute workout isn’t worth doing. Every time you do something, it counts. 4. Enjoy the endorphins. This addiction is one I can recommend! There’s a certain undeniable physical pleasure that comes from moving your body, especially to a good musical beat, and getting the blood pumping. Then when you miss a workout, you’ll feel the “itch” to get back into it. That’s cool. 5. Don’t forget the benefits. It’s much more satisfying to fill the need to exercise than to fill your face with a Twinkie. Twinkie begets Twinkie, remember; it just makes you want a soda to wash it down and then something salty to follow it up, and then something sweet again…the cycle never ends. If you exercise instead, you’ll feel great all day.
